The Tiger boys track team continued its impressive start to the track season by finishing second at the Shadyside Relays behind a strong St. Clairsville team that captured first place honors in the 48th running of the event. The Tigers performance was its finest showing in 13 years dating back to 2006 when they won the event. The Tigers were led by senior distance ace, Chase Stewart who earned the Jack Berger award as the meet’s top individual point scorer. The Youngstown State bound Stewart won the 1600 with a time of 4:37.98. He would also win the 800 meter run with a winning time of 2:05.44 and finished 2nd in the 3200 meter run with the time of 10:28.54. His efforts amassed 28 points for his team and thereby earning him the Berger award. In the field events, Jordan Joseph would clear 5-08, good enough for a third placer finish in the high jump. Tiger pole vaulters didn’t disappoint and got Shadyside an early lead by finishing 1-2 in the event. Senior Dale Hawthorne won the event by getting to a height of 12’6″ while sophomore teammate, Brenden Schrader cleared 12’0″. Jakob Klug also provided a fine performance in the 110 High Hurdles by finishing second with a time of 16:08. Klug would also have a 4th place finish in the 300 intermediate hurdles. In the relays events, the Tiger shuttle hurdle team of Jakob Klug, Seth Nardo, Jordan Joseph and Wyatt Reiman finished in second place behind St. Clairsville with a time of 1:04.92. The 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 meter relays teams turned in 6th and 5th place finishes respectively.
On the girls side, Jillian Joseph finished the long jump in 3rd place with a jump of 15-04.50. Joseph, the school recorder holder in the high jump, would finish in a three way tie for 6th place with a jump of 4-06. The Lady Tigers 4 x 800 meter relay team would garner a 3rd place finish with a time of 11:26.36 while the 4 x 100 meter shuttle hurdle relay team wo9uld finish 5th with a time of 1:16.90.
