Sometimes lost in the shuffle of King Football are the fall sports of volleyball, golf and cross country. However, the Tigers golf team continues to improve year after year and the volleyball team is once again growing by leaps and bounds and becoming very respectable in the OVAC after being absent as a sport for years. Not to be forgotten, Shadyside’s cross country team, especially on the girls side, continues to make a name for itself at the state level week after week.
The Lady Tigers Cross Country team finished the regular season of the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches at #20 to finish the final regular season poll. The Tigers, as early as week two, had claimed the 13th position. The Lady Tigers remained the coaches top twenty popll for seven straight weeks. After winning the OVAC Championship a couple of weeks ago, the Tigers have set their sights on the state championship to be held in Hebron, Ohio in less than two weeks.
The Tiger girls finished fourth behind Bellaire in this past weekend’s Division III Eastern District Championship Meet held at Cambridge. The Tigers were led by freshman Katie James who finished eighth with a time of 20:45. Behind her were junior Sophia Ferrelli finishing 12th with a time of 21.10, and senior Ashley Visnic coming in at a time of 21:34 and finishing 20th.
On the boys side, Chase Stewart, the lone Tiger runner, advanced to the regional as an individual by finishing sixth with a time of 17:13.
Congratulations to all the runners and good luck at this week’s regional meet at Pickerington.
