Roll out the ORANGE carpet folks!  At the recommendation of the Shadyside Athletic Council, Coach Ty Fleming is about to be honored with a plaque on the Wall of Fame at the Tiger Field House at Fleming Field.  Fleming will be honored at the Tigers home opener against Magnolia on August 26 for his career of service to Shadyside High School athletics.

Fleming, who served a long tenure as the Tiger athletic director and several years as the Tiger boss for both boys and girls basketball and track, will be remembered forever as the Tigers Head Football Coach, a position he initially accepted in 1980 and held through the 1991 season.

Since coming back in 1999 to head up the Tiger football program for a second stint, Fleming led the Tigers to an astounding 89-24 mark, including a pair of regional titles and a Division VI state runnerup finish in 2006. While never posting a perfect record, Fleming’s squads did rattle off four 9-1 campaigns (2000, 2001, 2003 and 2007) and claimed three OVAC crowns (2002, 2003, 2005).

He also guided the Tigers to the playoffs in 1991 and 1989. His teams also won the OVAC title in 1989 as well as 1982, a team that narrowly missed the playoffs when the OHSAA only took two squads.  All told, Fleming is the all-time winningest head coach in Shadyside football history in his 22-year career.

On the same night of Coach Fleming’s honoring, his 2006 football squad will be recognized on their ten year anniversary of being the first team to reach the OHSAA Division 6 state football championship.  The “Air Fleming” passing attack suffered during the game as the Tigers fell to Maria Stein Marion Local 17-0 on an extremely cold and windy day.

Festivities for the evening will include a Tiger Boosters pre-game tailgate party, the first halftime performance of the Tiger marching band under its new Director, Ms. Lindy Cole. and a post game reception for Coach Fleming at the Shadyside American Legion.

All former Tiger players, coaches and staff under Fleming are being asked to attend the festivities that evening.  For more information or to RSVP, contact Doug Campbell at 740-359-2104 or by e-mail at
