Shadyside High School Athletic Director, John Triveri has announced the 2016 varsity football schedule for the 2016 season. For the first time in years, the Tigers will play an “All-OVAC” schedule.
The Tigers will open the season at home against West Virginia Class A state Champion, Magnolia on Friday August 26 at Fleming Field.
The Tigers will take on perennial small school powerhouse, Monroe Central at Fleming Field in week 2. The Seminoles are coached by long time coach and Shadyside graduate, Jay Circosta.
In week 3 the Tigers take to the road and travel to Caldwell, Ohio to face an experienced Redskins football team before coming back home to Shadyside in Week 4 against Meadowbrook.
Weeks 5 & 6 see the Tigers back on the road. Week 5 is a trip to Toronto, where the Red Knights are still seeking their first win against the orange and black. Week 6 sees an old formidable foe back on the schedule as Shadyside travels to Hannibal to take on the River Pilots.
The Tigers will then play host to West Virginia perennial playoff contenders, Wheeling Central as well their route 7 rival, Bellaire in weeks 7 & 8.
The 2016 schedule rounds out with a couple of road games to Bridgeport and Bishop Donahue.
Of the ten OVAC football opponents, all but two of them (Bellaire and Bridgeport) gained entry into their respectable state tournaments in 2015 with Magnolia being the lone team to win the state championship in West Virginia.
All games are currently slated for 7:00pm starts.
