Miles and miles and miles. That’s what it takes to be honored as one of the top cross country runners in area. You must log miles and miles and miles. For Sophia Ferrelli, Ashley Visnic and Chase Stewart, those miles are just another walk in the park. Well maybe a run in the park.
The three Tiger distance runners were honored Sunday by the Times Leader and serve as the core of the All-Times Leader Team with Ferrelli being honored as a co-captain of the team.
In her comments about the Tiger runners, Head Coach Jenna Coyne noted that Ferrelli was the “running junkie.”
“She loves running so much that it got to a point that we had to tell her stop running so much for fear of an injury,” Coyne commented.
Ferrelli was the OVAC Class 1A/2A Champion as well as finishing 14th overall at the OVAC meet. She was also an individual regional qualifier.
“One of our toughest competitors is Ashley Visnic,” said Coyne.
Visnic competed in pain during much of the 2015 season and still managed to to be an OVAC 1A/2A placer as well as a regional qualifier.
On the boys side of the team, Tiger freshman shone brightly in his initial season.
Coach Coyne was certainly optimistic about his future stating that the young runner not only ran with some of the top cross country runners in the state but that he competed very well against them.
Stewart place 29th overall at the OVAC meet and 6th in the 1A/2A division.
“It’s safe to say that Chase has a bright future ahead of him,” Coach Coyne commented.
